The Artist - Sonofchi
Language is limiting. Images, painting, can be limitless and can be experienced through multiple senses.
To create my art I pull imagery from nature, from my imagination, and from what I’m sensing in the hands-on moments of creating. Using tools and tricks I can manipulate the paint, the canvas, and the emotion of the work.

Currently based in southern Colorado, I started my art in my home state of Texas.
In martial arts "chi" is the vital energy that is held within to animate the body. Art is an extension of my chi, hence my artist moniker, Sonofchi (pronounced sən-əv-chē).
I've continued to express myself through art, taking both from life experience and from my imaginings. I've learned and developed multiple methods including drawing, pottery, and painting.

Spray Enamel
I learned from some talented kids in Austin that graffiti has evolved beyond a cry of frustration into a way for people to really express themselves.
One especially talented friend, who tragically died way too young just months before his 20th birthday, showed me shading and composition in his graffs that really opened my eyes to what could be done with a can of paint.
I took to canvas and experimented with different nozzles and some makeshift stencils.
The Change to Acrylics
Moving to Denver limited my ability to continue spray work which requires a larger studio than I currently have. I started working with hand brushed acrylics on canvas, then forayed into the many possibilities with fluid acrylic.
I've experimented with different pour methods and have incorporated various "tools" to help get the vision from my head onto the canvas. I first focus on color, then on finding the inherent image, and finally I use a hand brush to further manipulate the creation and bring my vision into full view.
